I cant believe its been over 2 years since my last '3D'submission... Id like to say i've learnt a fair bit about 3D since then and been honing my skills since then and here is the result... a dark Alleyway
Started as a lighting experiment that soon turned into much more. I learned how to use many tools and techniques ive never tried before.
Used 3ds max (mental ray), fumefx, thinking particles and photoshop.. though played around with rayfire and afterburn (not included in final render)

This is pretty awesome. I though it was a photo manipulation at first. I like the textures that you have. I especially am a fan of the graffiti on the wall. I think the only I'm not convinvce by the realism on the head of the alien character. It looks somewhat flat and the fire over powers it. Maybe if you could find a way to create more depth in the fire, it might look more realistic. Besides that, I think this is an overall effective piece
Thanks, I agree with the 'flat look' with the alien. I might attempt to redo the fire in the future with less smoke and perhaps a higher quality simulation and see if I can get more of the detail underneath to show through.. Thanks for the comment.

I'd agree that the head of that creature is probably a weak design. I'd play with it some more, especially where it splits into two. If you're not using subsurface scattering, I'd try it out a bit. It will make the thing look more organic. I'd also up the specularity a bit and sharpen it.
The bricks feel small to me. It's hard to say since there isn't much to reference for scale, but you might try scaling it up a bit and see how it looks.
Compositionally, I'd say it's too busy. Maybe come down on the bloom a bit and try to emphasize one area of the picture. As is, the eye is drawn to the fire in the foreground, the bullets in the mid ground and the large bright area in the upper right so try to downplay some of those areas a bit so that we're not overwhelmed all at once.
Overall it's definitely not bad. Some of your shaders look really nice, like some of the metallic surfaces you have going on.
I hope this helps, let me know if you work on it some more .
Definitely a lot of good suggestions you've tempted me to work on it some more and if I do ill definitely let you know and take your ideas into account.. thanks again

eeeew, tentacles give me the creeps, I'm not sure I'd appreciate this happening in my local city fantastic job on the lights, particularly on the close brick wall and the plasma-bullets
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!

I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P
